Mandala Festival Lighting
From it’s inception, the Rainbow in the Dark has never stood still. Out of all the mediums I work in, I find light to be the most captivating and rewarding. For creating a rich, colour filled ambience as well as audience engagement, light has a significant role to play.
The continuing evolution of Rainbow in the Dark cannot be overstated. The overlapping geometry that plays and morphs within the rainbow. The updating and calibration of the equipment used to deliver it. All of it serves to keep Rainbow in the Dark constantly fresh and new.
At it’s creative core is a simple scientific principle; from simple rules complex behaviour arises. Playing with those rules and seeing what creative surprises are in store is a constant source of inspiration and delight.
And the experience isn’t just confined to the rainbow and it’s contents. As far as is possible any object in the environment – be it a tree or adjacent architecture – is used as a screen to reflect different lighting effects possible with my extensive range of equipment and experience. Making the mundane light up with colour and effects helps us see it with fresh eyes – and that is where so much of the magic lays.
